KEEP CALM

 HAHAHAHAH......NOW YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT TRUE! WE WORK UNDER MELBA! SHE TOTALLY HAS IT TOGETHER....BUT I COULDN'T RESIST MYSELF...IT MADE ME LAUGH TODAY!!!!!  KEEP CALM.....KEEP CALM...IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER!

OUR PART IN INTERNATIONAL DAY MARCH 24TH

INTERNATIONAL DAY - MARCH 24TH AT
THE FAIR GROUNDS.....

As you may know, this is the 100th year anniversary/birthday of Girl Scouts and we are living it up! Our troop is in charge of the celebration and organizing it all.....Mrs. Melba has done a tremendous job in the planning...along with the Neens....and we THE DAISIES are in charge of doing a booth in the LIFE OF JULIETTE LOWE. She was born in 1860 and died in 1927.

Our plans are to have a wing back chair or some old chair (oldest we can find) along with a couch we are borrowing from the "Neens" along with a round table (have it) for the TEA TIME area.  We need for the TEA TIME area:

* 300 butter cookies (look like a flower) - we have to serve a snack at our booth
* mouth wash cups - we will use these to put lemonaide in to serve with cookie (think tea party)
* beverage napkins

The next area will be THE LIFE OF JULIETTE LOWE MUSEUM.  We are planning on putting as many things as we can on two long tables that had something to do with her life.  Here are some ideas that you and your girls can sign up to help bring along with a description as to why it is important:

* paper daisies
* rubber worms
* white gloves
* pearl necklace
* bag of rice (it was rice that caused her deafness)
* stack of old books (she loved to tell stories - especially ghost stories)
* Silver Fish - she won the silver fish award
* cast iron trivet - to represent that she forged her own iron gates...matter of fact she worked so hard on them...that she developed muscles that would not fit into her "dainty dresses"
* something French looking - she went to a French Finishing School
* battleship - a liberty ship was named after her in WWII
* pumkin - she was born on October 31st.
* paint set - she loved to paint/draw
* turkey - look up the turkey story of how she convinced her parents not to kill their Thanksgiving Turkey.
* British Flag - she loved being in England
* Games she would have played:  jumprope, bubble blowing, tick tack toe, solitair, marbles, tops and jacks.
* A science fair board of her drawings and etc.....

We are also planning on a camping area.  We need someone to come up with a way to set up an old fashion tent with bamboo and a sheet.  I told you this was a big area!!! We have plenty of room.  At the talent show someone had a log that looked like it was on fire...we would love to find one of these....if you know someone that has one great~!~!!  We need a wood stool/bench - anything that would look camp site-ish.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ON THIS TASK....PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Other things we may need:

* cross stitching
* we need some safety pins for a swap
* We thought of putting some framed work of Juliette Lowe on the walls/quotes/ (hung by the sticky hooks that peel off - and ribbon/string hot glued to the backs)
* a uniform replica of the era
* old luggage? I have an old trunk I am going to bring....to add to the "look"

THE GIRLS WILL NEED TO WEAR KHAKI PANTS/SKIRTS/SHORT AND A WHITE SHIRT. WE WOULD FOR THEM TO BE IN A KHAKI DRESS (AS CLOSE TO TEH LOOK OF THE KHAKI UNIFORM OF HER ERA.  WE WILL BE HAVING A FASHION SHOW TO DISPLAY THE LOOK OF UNIFORMS THORUGH OUT THE 100 YEARS OF GIRL SCOUTS.  WE WANT ATLEAST ONE OF OUR GIRLS IN THE SHOW.  WE ARE WORKING ON THIS...BUT WE WOULD LOVE SOME HELP.
TALENT SHOW ACT A SUCCESS!!!!!!!!
If your child was in the talent show at the Ritz......we were considered a "hit"!!!!

We were asked to present our Candle Song with Sign at the International Tea on March 24th at 11:30am........International Day Opening on March 24th at 1:00pm.....AND at the Service Unit Meeting Award night on April 12th (Thursday night at 6:00 pm - St. James Luthern on Kelwin Drive by Hospital) -

 PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN MAKE THAT OR NOT! WE ARE SOOOOO PROUD OF OUR GIRLS!!!!

World Thinking Badge

BADGE OPPORTUNITY
WANT TO EARN A "WORLD THINKING DAY 2012" BADGE?

The World Thinking Day award is now an OFFICIAL award and therefore it may be worn on the front of the Official Uniform sash/vest. Do one of the following to earn your award:

* Pick a country that you would like to visit some day. With an adult's help, learn what the country's national tree, flower, bird, and animal is. Then try to find some pictures showing nature in that country and ways people are working to protect their natural environment.

* Learn about an endangered species in your area. Where does it live? What does it eat? What animals eat it? What are its habits? Why is it threatened with extinction? What can we do to help? Draw a picture or
present a skit about what the enviroment would be like it that species goes extinct.

* Think of different ways to save water at your house and school. Draw a picture of them or make a list to display at your school, home or Girl Scout meeting place.

* Make creative "switch me off" reminder notes and stick them on the light switches, electric appliances and water taps in your house, school, or Girl Scout meeting place.

* Take a nature walk and try to remember all the things you see on the walk. What are their shapes, sizes, colors and textures (how do they feel?) Afterwards, share with your GS friends what you saw.
WHEN THEY HAVE COMPLETED ONE OF THESE OPTIONS - PLEASE COMPLETE THE BADGE FORM AND SEND IN $1 FOR THE BADGE. THE FORM IS ATTACHED. IT WILL ALSO BE PUT ON THE BLOG.
